VB-XL™ Volleyball Activity Guide

#1-89590

Inflation/ Deflation

The VB- XL uses a standard athletic valve and should be inflated and deflated as you would a basketball. Use a tape measure around the middle to make certain you do not inflate over 50 1 /4" in circumference (16" diameter). Under inflation is okay.

WEIRD GAMES

The following are just a few of the many games that can be played with a Sportime VB- XL Ball. The rules below are not etched in stone, so feel free to adapt them to your special needs. After all, what do we know?

Siamese Twins Volleyball

A fun game for players broken up into "twin" pairs. In this game our Siamese twins are joined by their inside hands around their partner's waist. In fact, they must play as if they were one person, with two hands (one partner's right and the other's left), four legs and two heads. All the rules of volleyball remain intact except there is no spiking allowed. When jumping, twins will need to leave the ground simultaneously. If twins should come apart during play (whether that pair is hitting the ball or not) it's an automatic "side out." Serving twins must serve with one partner's hand, while the other partner's hand tosses the ball.

Asteroid Dodgeball

This is dodgeball with a special flare. Two teams form opposing lines and send a 1/ 4 of their players into the middle. These players are to be known as "Middle Dwellers." Teams alternately try to hit an opposing Middle Dweller by throwing a VB-XL high into the air so that it will fall on their target. A Middle Dweller must leave the game when hit and the team that wins is the one with the last Middle Dweller remaining. Simple? Not so fast! Unfortunately, all Middle Dwellers are blind- folded. If a team accidently hits their own player, that player is out. Once a ball is thrown into the air, all sighted players must yell "Asteroids Falling." they can also then begin to shout instructions to their Middle Dwellers, directing them on which way to move in order to avoid the falling VB- XL. Voice recognition is a real plus in this game.

Zombie Bowling

In this game opposing teams take turns being Bowlers and Pins. Each team will bowl an entire 10 frames, with each player alternating rolling the ball. No player can roll two consecutive balls nor bowl until all other team members have bowled. Up to 10 players of the Pin team set up in the standard triangle pattern as far away from the bowlers as playing space allows, up to a maximum of 60'. They score in the same manner as if they were at a bowling alley.

The ball is bowled (rolled, not bounced) with one or two hands, toward the pins. Pin players must await the ball without moving. Any player hit by the ball directly or on the rebound, must close their eyes and rotate three complete times. Keeping their eyes closed, they must then "Walk Like Zombies" safely away from other pins. If they hit another pin, they (plus the pin they've hit), must rotate again and repeat the process. This continues until all the Pins are safely to the side or have been hit. If all Pins are hit on the first ball of a frame, it's a strike. If any pins remain standing, the next bowler goes for the spare.
